Seven-stage Extensive Viewing Framework

Extensive Viewing in simple terms is watching  many films and television series in order to learn a new language. The Seven-stage Extensive Viewing Framework is designed to be used by English language students who want to improve their English through watching feature-length films. This framework overcomes the lack of a large database of levelled and graded film material due to the complexity and expense of levelling and grading film texts, by making authentic films more accessible to English language through the use of pre-viewing discussion questions about the genre, setting and topic of the film to activate students’ schemata, synopses to aid comprehension of narratives, glossaries and subtitles to lower cognitive load and aid listening comprehension.
