We are offering new editions of our ‘Film and Video in Language Teaching’ and ‘Empathy in Language Teaching’ courses at The School for Training, our small teacher development institute, in Barcelona this summer.

On our ‘Film and Video in Language Teaching‘ course, Kieran trains teachers how to use film and video critically and creatively in the language classroom.

The course last five days and there are a total of twenty contact hours.
The course language is English but the course is suitable for teachers of other languages. Teachers train in the morning and then enjoy the beautiful city of Barcelona in the afternoon and evening.
Course content
Sessions deals with the following themes:
- Using short films and videos
- Using feature-length films
- How to write activities for authentic film and video
- Digital film‐making in language teaching and learning
- Using film and video to foster:
- oral communicative competence
- written communicative competence
- oral comprehension
- creativity
- empathy
- visual literacy
- multimodality literacy
- the fifth skill of viewing
- the sixth skill of visually representing

- The empathic brain and how it works.
- Using techniques from cognitive behavioural therapy to develop empathy.
- Using techniques from humanistic teaching to develop empathy.
- How to use film and video to foster empathy.
- How to use paintings and photographs to foster empathy.
- How to use Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS) to foster empathy.
- How to use Visible Thinking Routines (VTR) to foster empathy.
- How to use literature to foster empathy in the language classroom.
- How to teach ‘active listening’ to foster empathy in the language classroom.
